Iran’s intelligence says it dismantled Israeli-linked terrorist outfit
Iran's security services have eliminated several foreign-backed terror formations near its western frontiers in recent years, notably involving separatist Kurdish groups.
Iran's Intelligence Ministry has revealed it dismantled a separatist terrorist organization linked to "Israel" which planned to infiltrate the nation.
"This separatist terrorist group aimed to enter West Azarbaijan Province from Iraq's Kurdistan Region with the goal of inciting street riots, carrying out assassinations, and generating insecurity," a ministry announcement said on Wednesday.
"However, they were identified and dismantled upon entry."
According to the statement, one of the group's major members was killed during the operation, while two others were captured and disarmed.
Iran's security services have eliminated several foreign-backed terror formations near its western frontiers in recent years, notably involving separatist Kurdish groups.
The country has long claimed that Iraq's Kurdistan has become a haven for anti-Iranian terror groups.
Only days ago, at least 10 police officers were killed in a deadly terrorist attack targeting police vehicles in Sistan-Baluchistan province's Taftan county, an area frequently impacted by violence and unrest.
State news agency IRNA cited a police statement confirming that "10 personnel in two patrol units" lost their lives in an ambush.
In September last year, Iranian media reported that Iraq began removing anti-Iran terrorist groups from the Kurdish region along its border with the Islamic Republic, relocating them to more distant bases per a security pact between Tehran and Baghdad signed in 2022, Iranian media reported on Sunday.
The Komala terrorist group confirmed in a statement that, as part of this agreement, it has evacuated its bases in Zargwez and moved its forces to the Swaresh district near the city of Dukan, approximately 40 km north.
Under the security agreement, all terrorist and separatist groups are required to vacate their bases near Iran's borders and disarm. Certain groups, including the Kurdish Democratic Party of Iran, have already relocated their headquarters.
'Sabotage' groups at Iran's borders supported by 'Israel': IRGC Gen.
In September, IRGC Ground Force Commander Brigadier General Mohammad Pakpour stated that investigations concluded "Israel" is providing support to sabotage groups carrying out terrorist attacks at the borders of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Speaking at a ceremony in Rasht, Gilan province, Pakpour highlighted that "terrorists and counter-revolutionary elements" are now utilizing new tactics and warfare equipment much different than in the past.
“We are witnessing the fundamental changes in the form of tactics and strategy of war so that we must prepare our military units in accordance with these conditions," the IRGC ranking official said.
"In the past few months, terrorist attacks were conducted on the police stations and checkpoints in southern parts of the country that were carried out by powerful terrorist services behind these operations," he explained.
