Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has sent a message of greeting to Kim Jong Un, leader of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), on the occasion of the country’s founding anniversary, KCNA reported.
The message, dated September 4, extended warm congratulations to Kim Jong Un on the anniversary of September 9, marking the founding of the DPRK.
Pezeshkian expressed confidence that relations between Iran and the DPRK would continue to grow stronger in the future, citing the determination of both nations’ leaders to further develop bilateral ties.
He wished Kim Jong Un good health and success in his leadership, and extended best wishes for the happiness and prosperity of the people of the DPRK.
DPRK extends support to Iran
Iran and the DPRK have maintained strong diplomatic relations, now growing, due to their common stance against US imperialism and Western hegemony, as well as heavy Western sanctions on both.
During the Israeli war on Iran in June, Pyongyang expressed solidarity with Iran, issuing a sharp rebuke of the recent US strike targeting Iranian nuclear facilities, denouncing the action as a serious infringement on Iran’s sovereignty and security. Pyongyang labeled the US attack "a grave violation of a sovereign state's security interests and territorial rights."
In a statement released by an unnamed spokesperson from the DPRK Foreign Ministry, the US and "Israel" were accused of provoking instability in the Middle East through what was described as “ceaseless war moves and territorial expansion,” a campaign “accepted and encouraged by the West.”
"(The DPRK) strongly denounces the attack on Iran by the US which ... violently trampled down the territorial integrity and security interests of a sovereign state," the spokesperson declared.
The statement further called for international solidarity against these actions: "The just international community should raise the voice of unanimous censure and rejection against the US and Israel's confrontational acts."
