A senior commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) has stated that Iran would retaliate for the Israeli occupation's latest aggression at an appropriate time.
Brigadier General Ali Fadavi, the IRGC’s second-in-command, said on Monday that "True Promise III will be carried out in due time." Iran previously launched two large-scale retaliatory missile and drone operations, True Promise I and True Promise II, against the Israeli occupation in April and October 2024.
Commenting on the war on Gaza, Fadavi asserted that Israeli officials themselves have admitted that Hamas emerged victorious while they suffered losses.
Following Iran’s past retaliatory operations, Israeli warplanes, using US-controlled airspace over Iraq, launched an attack on Iranian military sites in Tehran, Khuzestan, and Ilam provinces on October 26, 2024.
Iran condemned the strike as a blatant violation of its sovereignty but stated that its air defenses successfully intercepted the attack, limiting damage to radar sites. The strike resulted in the deaths of five people, including four army officers and a civilian.
Response to come
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi affirmed on November 26 that Tehran would inevitably retaliate against Israeli aggression but emphasized that the timing and nature of the response would depend on the right conditions.
In an interview with Al Mayadeen, Araghchi stated, "Responding to the Zionist entity’s attack is inevitable and certain. However, the circumstances, timing, and form of this response will be determined based on the appropriate conditions." He stressed that Iran would act wisely, neither rushing nor delaying its retaliation.
Regarding True Promise III, Araghchi confirmed that it would take place as promised. He also issued a stark warning against any Israeli attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities, calling it a "red line" that would be met with immediate retaliation.
"If the Zionist entity attacks our nuclear facilities, we will respond in kind. I do not believe they would take such a reckless step, as they know well how we would react," he stated.
Operation True Promise II
The IRGC's October operation was declared "Operation True Promise II, after its antecedent "Operation True Promise", during which an unprecedented drone and missile attack was launched at "Israel" from Iran in April, in response to the Israeli assassination of its officials and aggression on its embassy in Damascus.
In a second statement, the IRGC confirmed that three military bases in Tel Aviv were targeted: Nevatim, Hatzerim, and the Tel Nof Airbase.
In detail, the Nevatim base houses the F-35 fighter jets, and the Hatzerim base houses the F-15 fighter jets used to assassinate Martyr Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah. The IRGC affirmed that the latter was targeted in response to the assassination of Hezbollah's martyred leader.
Additionally, at least 90% of Iran's ballistic missiles and projectiles launched from its first wave toward occupied Palestinian territories struck their targets, according to the IRGC's second statement.
The attack also successfully hit gas platforms near the occupied city of Askalan, according to Tasnim News Agency.
