Iran slams ballistic missiles to Russia claim as 'completely baseless'
Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesperson underscores that since the beginning, Iran has not been involved in the war in Ukraine or its continuation.
Iran advocates for a political solution to resolve the disputes between Russia and Ukraine and bring an end to the military conflict, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Nasser Kanaani reiterated on Sunday.
"As it has been emphasized many times, the Islamic Republic of Iran, while opposing the war, supports the political solution to resolve the disputes between Russia and Ukraine and end the military conflicts," Kanaani told IRNA.
He underscored that since the beginning, Iran has not been involved in the war in Ukraine or its continuation, adding that Tehran has consistently supported a political resolution and bilateral negotiations to bring the crisis to an end.
The Iranian diplomat affirmed that his country's principled stance on the Ukraine crisis remains unchanged, slamming the repeated claims of ballistic missile transfers to Russia as politically driven and entirely unfounded.
"The conventional military cooperation between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Russian Federation has a history much older than the start of the Ukrainian war," Kanaani said.
The spokesperson explained that "these cooperations are within the framework of bilateral agreements and based on international norms and laws and have nothing to do with the Ukraine crisis."
Iran rejects allegations about supplying Russia with arms
His statements echoed those of Iran's Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations Amir Saeid Iravani, who strongly rejected on Thursday claims made by the United States, the United Kingdom, and France regarding alleged Iranian arms sales and transfers to Russia.
In a letter addressed to the UN Security Council, Iravani stated that the US and its allies "cannot hide the fact that the shipment of advanced Western weaponry, particularly by the United States, has prolonged the war in Ukraine and caused harm to civilians and civilian infrastructure."
He pointed out that the representatives of France and the UK made false allegations under UN Security Council Resolution 2231 (2015), while the US representative not only reiterated those claims but also accused Iran of supporting terrorism.
The Iranian Ambassador emphasized that "these baseless and misleading accusations are categorically rejected."
He argued that the US is the "chief sponsor of terrorism in the region and the world," adding that these allegations were merely a reflection of the "narrow and short-sighted political agendas" of the three permanent council members, aimed at advancing their political interests.
"It is laughable that three countries, which are directly involved in the Ukraine war and actively fueling the conflict, would brazenly accuse the Islamic Republic of intervening in the war," Iravani said, reaffirming Tehran’s commitment to adhering to international humanitarian law.
His remarks come in response to a recent Bloomberg report, which, citing unnamed sources, claimed that European officials expect Iran to soon deliver Iranian-made ballistic missiles to Russia for use in the Ukraine war.
Iran has consistently denied accusations of providing military support to Russia amid the war in Ukraine. Numerous allegations have been raised against Iran, with Washington claiming that Tehran was supplying Moscow with drones for use in the war.
Most recently, Iran was accused of training Russian military personnel in Ukraine, a claim dismissed by Kanaani in late August.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson pointed out that "such baseless claims are made with specific political goals and motives, and such accusations on the stance of the Islamic Republic of Iran regarding the conflict in Ukraine are contradictory."
