Chief of General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Bagheri called newly-appointed Turkish Defense Minister Lieutenant General Yasar Gulerto to congratulate him on his new post in Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's freshly-formed cabinet.

During the phone call, Bagheri stated that the Iranian armed forces and Turkish armed forces should resume bilateral military cooperation.

The top Iranian general stressed that Iran and Turkey are “good and strategic neighbors”, highlighting the importance of bilateral military cooperation in reference to the fact that the two countries share “friendly and peaceful borders".

Bagheri also indicated the need for bilateral meetings at different levels, in addition to holding joint military drills between the two countries.

Voicing hope for close military cooperation continuing between the two countries, Bagheri invited his Turkish Defense Minister to visit Tehran, stressing the need for expediting the development of bilateral ties.

On his account, the Turkish Minister underlined the importance of expanding military cooperation with Iran.

Additionally, he thanked Iran for its "brotherly and friendly" assistance provided to Turkey in the wake of the tragic earthquake that occurred in February of this year.

This comes shortly after Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian congratulated newly-appointed Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan on his new post in Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's freshly-formed cabinet.

Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi called Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan once again, congratulated him on his victory in Turkey's most recent presidential elections, and underscored the importance of the regional countries' shared interests.

The increased quadrilateral cooperation, Erdogan explained, will emerge more effective results that will proceed to strengthen and deepen regional ties inevitably expanding economic and commercial cooperation.
