Iran’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Amir Saeid Iravani, has condemned what he described as a “criminal confession” by US President Donald Trump over Washington’s involvement in the recent Israeli aggression on Iran.
In a letter addressed to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and the President of the UN Security Council, Michael Imran Kanu, Iravani said Trump’s statements offered “clear and undeniable evidence” of US command responsibility in the 12-day aggression launched by "Israel" against Iran from June 13 to 24, 2025.
“Israel attacked first. That attack was very, very powerful. I was very much in charge of that,” Trump told reporters on Thursday.
“When Israel attacked Iran first, that was a great day for Israel because that attack did more damage than the rest of them put together," he further added.
US led the Israeli aggression
The Iranian envoy argued that the remarks confirm that the US not only supported but led the military operations carried out by "Israel" during that period, in “a grave and flagrant violation” of the UN Charter and international humanitarian law. He said the attacks caused civilian casualties, widespread destruction of infrastructure, and damage to Iran’s safeguarded civilian nuclear facilities.
The Iranian representative also said Trump’s admission exposed the “falsity” of earlier US denials, referring to a June 13 statement by the US Secretary of State Marco Rubio claiming that Washington was not involved in strikes against Iran.

Iran seeks diplomatic escalation
Iravani stressed that both the US and "Israel" bear “full and joint responsibility” for the aggression and its humanitarian consequences. He reaffirmed Tehran's right to seek accountability through international legal mechanisms and to pursue reparations for the loss of life and destruction caused.
He requested that his letter be circulated as an official document of the UN Security Council, signaling Tehran’s intent to escalate the matter diplomatically.
“This further reaffirms the inherent and sovereign right of the Islamic Republic of Iran to pursue all available international legal avenues to ensure that the United States and its officials are held fully accountable, to seek full reparation, including compensation, in accordance with international law, for all those lost their lives as well as for injuries, damages, and losses inflicted upon the Islamic Republic of Iran and its people,” the statement read.
The remarks come amid growing tensions following "Israel’s" June aggression against Iranian military and nuclear sites, which marked one of the most serious escalations between Iran and the Israeli occupation in years. Tehran has repeatedly asserted that the attacks were conducted with US coordination and backing, an allegation now seemingly reinforced by Trump’s own statements.
The US also launched its own strikes on Iranian nuclear sites at the final stages of the aggression, before Iran retaliated, targeting the US largest military installation in West Asia, the Al-Udeid Air Base.
