The Iranian ambassador to Syria, Mehdi Sobhani, declared that the region will be devoid of any US presence, with no trace left of its troops.

During an exclusive interview with the Syrian newspaper Al-Watan, Sobhani highlighted the hypocrisy of those claiming to support human rights and international law while remaining silent over “Israel’s” aggressions on Syria as well as its assassination of its dissidents.

Iran welcomes the détente between Arab Countries and Syria

As for the recent détente between Arab countries and Syria, Sobhani affirmed that "Iran welcomes any opening up in Syria's foreign relations," assuring that it is in the interest of the Syrian government and people.

The ambassador added that Iran is pleased to see Syria moving towards relations that ease its pain and pave the ground for prosperity and growth.

Turkey's presence in Syria is illegal

Concerning Iran’s stance towards Turkey’s illegal presence in Syria, Sobhani affirmed that his country disagrees with it, further stressing the necessity of the withdrawal of Turkish forces from Syria, as to allow its people to live in peace.

It is noteworthy that the Syrian Foreign Minister, Faisal al-Miqdad, stressed several times the necessity of Turkey to withdraw from the northwest of Syria, in order to "make room for a solution that guarantees normal relations between Syria and Turkey after the end of this occupation."

There is no dispute between us and Russia

With regards to Iranian-Russian relations, Sobhani stressed that "what brings his country together with Russia is a common goal, which is defeating terrorism in Syria and standing up to terrorists and their international sponsors."

He further delved into the matter by recalling the plot to overthrow the Syrian regime by terrorists and their sponsors, which prompted the intervention of both Russia and Iran to halt the planned division of the country. This shared goal constitutes the crux of the Iranian-Russian joint efforts Sobhani said, stressing that no disputes mar their relations.

It is noteworthy that the Iranian ambassador spoke of Syria as having a very distinguished position in Iranian foreign policy, with good intentions governing their relations which paves the way for a bright future.
