Iranian FM in New York for consultations amid war on Gaza
According to Amir-Abdollahian, West Asia has reached a worrying point with a risk of control loss.
Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian is in New York for international consultations amid rising tension and the potential for a war escalation.
Amir Saeed Iravani, Iran's Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the UN, welcomed Amir-Abdollahian upon his arrival at John F. Kennedy Airport in New York on Wednesday evening as part of the Islamic Republic of Iran's regional and international engagements.
The Israeli occupation army, unable to fight the Palestinian Resistance fighters, has been relentlessly bombarding residential areas, hospitals, religious centers, and schools in the Gaza Strip, as well as the West Bank and southern Lebanon, since the start of Hamas' Operation Al-Aqsa Flood on October 7.
Amir-Abdollahian cautioned against the war on Gaza spreading to other fronts in the region while speaking with reporters in New York.
He added that Iran has made significant efforts in New York to block the US-drafted unilateral resolution on Gaza from being approved.
It is worth noting that Russian Ambassador Vasily Nebenzia was critical of the resolution, describing it as "political" and expressing concerns about the approach taken in its drafting.
Nebenzia pointed out that the US delegation had denied other Security Council members the opportunity to consult with their respective capitals and had imposed unrealistic and urgent deadlines.
"The American delegation directly refused other security council members the opportunity of consulting with capitals, establishing unrealistic urgent deadlines," Nebenzia told the Security Council members ahead of the vote.

Amir-Abdollahian said the Permanent Mission of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations went above and beyond to prevent votes in favor of the Israeli entity in a unilateral draft resolution that the United States submitted.
Russia offered a humanitarian ceasefire in draft resolutions for the UN Security Council that were put to a vote on Wednesday.
Russia's latest proposed UN Security Council resolution regarding the war on Gaza calls for the creation of humanitarian breaks and humanitarian pathways, Sputnik reported on Tuesday, citing the document.
"Notes in this regard that humanitarian ceasefire agreement could play a vital role to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian assistance in order to help save civilian lives, and further calls for all measures, such as humanitarian pauses and establishment of humanitarian corridors," the draft resolution said.
Amir-Abdollahian told an IRNA correspondent, upon his arrival in New York, that a genocide of civilians is taking place in Gaza as a result of the United States and a few other countries' constant backing for the Israeli entity, and that the situation in the West Asia region has reached a worrying point with the possibility of losing control by all parties involved.
He mentioned that China and Russia vetoed the US draft resolution on Palestine and that the Islamic Republic had meetings with them in Tehran.
Amir-Abdollahian argued that the essential point is that the US draft resolution did not ensure peace, security, and stability in the region.
The Foreign Minister of Iran stated that he would like to discuss the Islamic Republic's positions on the recent developments in Gaza and that he will be meeting with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.
