Iranian FM: Biden cannot impose one-sided views by imposing sanctions
The Iranian Foreign Minister says the window of diplomacy is still open only because of Iran's dynamic initiatives.
Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said on Monday that reaching a final agreement "needs US' acceptance of realities, flexibility, and initiatives."
On Twitter, Amir-Abdollahian considered that US President Joe Biden "cannot impose US' one-sided views through accusation and sanction," adding that "diplomacy is not a one-way street."
The Iranian Foreign Minister underlined that "if window of diplomacy is still open, that's because of Iran's dynamic initiatives."
Amir-Abdollahian: Americans have not acted appropriately
Earlier, Amir-Abdollahian held talks in Rome with his Italian counterpart Luigi Di Maio, where he pointed to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
During the meeting, he said, "We want JCPOA to work well. We seriously want a good and lasting agreement. We believe that Iran should be able to take full advantage of the JCPOA economically."
The Iranian Minister pointed out that "America should understand this fact well in the field of guarantees." In this regard, the Islamic Republic of Iran has always presented its own initiatives.
"However, the Americans have not acted appropriately and rationally. They should understand the issue in a realistic manner," he added.
"Road to diplomacy is currently open"
Amir-Abdollahian had previously stressed that “the road to diplomacy is open," noting that Tehran has "always put forward our suggestions and positive ideas in the negotiations."
He also underscored that his country does not have any demands that go beyond the nuclear agreement, contrary to the US allegations.
It is noteworthy that on June 28, the Qatari capital of Doha hosted indirect talks between Iran and the United States over reviving the 2015 JCPOA with major powers.
Marandi: Tehran does not take US officials' media statements seriously
At the end of the talks, the EU's Deputy Secretary-General Enrique Mora tweeted, "Unfortunately, not yet the progress the EU team as coordinator had hoped for. We will keep working with even greater urgency to bring back on track a key deal for non-proliferation and regional stability."
Commenting on the talks, the advisor to the Iranian negotiating team, Seyed Mohammad Marandi, said that "there was never any expectation that these negotiations would culminate in an agreement over a couple of days."
In an interview for Al Mayadeen, Marandi added that Tehran does not take US officials' media statements seriously, noting that the Americans should provide the guarantees that Iran demands to confirm that "history is not repeated."
He added that "Iran doesn't expect anything more, but it won't expect anything less," stressing that "there has been movement on the American side."
Tasnim news agency cited the US State Department as saying that the indirect talks in Doha have concluded with "no progress made."
