In a significant counterterrorism operation, Iranian intelligence forces have dismantled a Takfiri terrorist network and confiscated a substantial stockpile of weapons and explosives in Sistan and Baluchestan, a southeastern province of the country.
Various news reports said on Wednesday that the operation was conducted by the provincial intelligence department, which led to the discovery of four warehouses where the terrorist group was storing arms and explosive materials.
Reports state that intelligence and security forces confiscated 226 light weapons, including pistols, Kalashnikov rifles, and heavy machine guns like Goryunovs.
Additionally, they seized semi-heavy RPG launchers, two mortar launchers, and over 20 kilograms of explosives, including improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and electronic detonators. Some of the confiscated explosives were destroyed to neutralize any potential threat.
Authorities revealed that the weapons were smuggled into the country and concealed within fuel containers. Additionally, the terrorist group had recently sought to disrupt security in southeastern Iran, aiming to destabilize the region and obstruct government efforts to serve the local population.
This operation is part of a broader series of counter-espionage and anti-terror missions carried out by Iranian forces.
Iran dismantles Israeli-US spy and espionage network
Earlier this month, the commander of Karbala Regional Corps in Iran's IRGC revealed that they dismantled Israeli-American spy and espionage networks in Mazandaran Province.
"Thanks to precise intelligence awareness, we were able to dismantle infiltration and espionage networks affiliated with American, Israeli, and some hostile intelligence agencies," the commander said in an interview with the Tasnim News Agency.
Brigadier General Siavash Moslemi, head of the Karbala Corps, further added, "Iran's enemies, including American and Israeli intelligence agencies, as well as some hostile countries in the region, are always seeking to infiltrate the country," pointing out one way these agencies infiltrate Iran is through "Using the cover of foreign nationals and individuals who frequently visit Iran."
According to Brig. Gen. Moslemi, these units work under the guise of commercial companies, as well as cultural and charity groups to collect intelligence or form spy networks, and Iran has been observing and identifying these networks which try to create terrorist or rebel groups.
