Iranian leader pardons, commutes sentences of hundreds of prisoners
On the occasion of Eid Al-Fitr, Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei agrees to pardon or commute the sentences of 1,542 convicts.
Iran has announced that the Iranian leader Sayyed Ali Khamenei has agreed to pardon or reduce the sentences of 1,542 persons convicted by the general and revolutionary courts, the military judiciary, and governmental bodies in Iran.
The Iranian leader's approval to pardon or commute the sentences of these convicts comes on the occasion of Eid Al-Fitr.
The head of the judiciary, Gholam-Hossein Mohseni-Eje'i, had submitted a letter to the Iranian leader, on the eve of Eid Al-Fitr, in which he proposed pardoning, commuting, or replacing the sentences of 1,542 prisoners who are convicted by the judiciary and who met the necessary conditions.
Sayyed Khamenei granted his approval to this proposal, in accordance with Clause 11 of Article 110 of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
It is worth noting that the Iranian leader Sayyed Ali Khamanei routinely pardons prisoners on religious holidays.
