Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi announced on Wednesday that he discussed the upcoming visit of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian to China with his Chinese counterpart, Wang Yi.
"We talked about the president's visit to China, and I hope a bilateral visit will take place soon," Araghchi was quoted by Nournews agency.
The meeting covered several aspects of Iran-China relations, with Araghchi noting that Tehran and Beijing share a "very good understanding" regarding Iran's nuclear issue and ongoing indirect negotiations with the United States.
During his trip to Beijing, Araghchi reportedly delivered a message from President Pezeshkian to Chinese President Xi Jinping, further emphasizing the importance of diplomatic engagement between the two countries.
Iran, China reaffirm strategic partnership
Earlier today, Araghchi met with China's First Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang in Beijing to reaffirm the long-standing Iran-China strategic partnership and discuss accelerating the implementation of their 25-year cooperation roadmap, Iran's Mehr news agency reported.
Araghchi, visiting Beijing at the invitation of his Chinese counterpart, held talks with Ding on Wednesday. Both sides reviewed ongoing cooperation under the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and explored ways to boost bilateral initiatives under the 25-year comprehensive cooperation program.
During the meeting, Araghchi described China as a strategic and trustworthy partner, stressing the importance of enhancing both bilateral and multilateral cooperation. He highlighted frameworks such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and BRICS as key platforms for expanding ties.
Araghchi emphasized the need for Iran-China multilateral cooperation to counter unilateralism and global bullying, reaffirming Iran’s commitment to deepen ties with China.
China praises Tehran-Beijing ties
Moreover, the Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson praised the robust and steady relations between Tehran and Beijing, emphasizing their strong bilateral ties ahead of Araghchi's visit to China.
Over the 54 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations, China and Iran have maintained a traditional friendship characterized by mutual respect, trust, and support, as stated by Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun on Tuesday, according to the Global Times.
Guo further noted that the two countries have advanced the steady and healthy growth of bilateral relations while significantly contributing to peace and stability regionally and globally.
