Presidents of Iran, Russia discuss regional stability in phone call

During a telephone conversation on Tuesday, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and Russian President Vladimir Putin engaged in discussions regarding recent regional developments.

In particular, Raisi and Putin underscored the need for dialogue within the 3+3 format to address the challenges in the Nagorno-Karabakh region, which has been a point of contention between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
The 3+3 format cooperation mechanism comprises the three South Caucasus nations -- Armenia, Georgia, and Azerbaijan -- alongside Russia, Turkey, and Iran.

During their phone conversation, Raisi and Putin emphasized the importance of avoiding external interference in regional affairs.
President Raisi expressed his appreciation for the positive developments in bilateral relations and urged the prompt execution of collaborative agreements and initiatives.
He highlighted key areas such as transit, transportation, energy exchange, and the completion of the North-South corridor.
Additionally, the Iranian President conveyed his gratitude for Russia's support of Iran's membership in BRICS, characterizing this consortium of major emerging economies as a potent force in shaping a multipolar world.
He emphasized BRICS' potential to enhance interactions among Iran, Russia, and other member nations at bilateral, regional, and international levels.

In response, President Putin acknowledged the remarkable increase in trade volume between Russia and Iran over the past year.
He also expressed optimism about the swift realization of the Rasht-Astara railway, a vital transport corridor connecting the railway networks of Russia, Azerbaijan, and Iran.
Putin noted that this project would significantly boost regional trade exchanges.
He further reaffirmed Iran's status as a strategic partner of Russia.
