Iran’s top negotiator: Earnest negotiations on sanctions has not begun
The Head of Iran's negotiating delegation in Vienna, Ali Bagheri Kani, insists that all sanctions imposed on Iran during the Trump and Obama administrations must be lifted.
Iran’s chief negotiator in the Vienna talks, Ali Bagheri Kani, said Tuesday, that other parties didn’t start negotiating in an earnest way to lift sanctions as a gesture of good faith toward Iran.
Earlier today, the top Iranian diplomat stated that the Iranian delegation has already placed proposals on the table regarding the removal of illegal and cruel US sanctions on Tehran, as well as the nuclear issue, and is working hard to close the gaps in the Vienna talks.
“Some actors persist in their blame game habit, instead of real diplomacy. We proposed our ideas early, and worked constructively and flexibly to narrow gaps,” he stressed.
In an interview for Al Mayadeen, Iran's lead negotiator in the Vienna talks considered that the path Iran followed during the negotiations was a successful one, noting that the negotiations during the previous days were focused on setting a framework for discussing the disputed points to speed up reaching an agreement.
Kani asserted that Iran came to the negotiation table willingly and was not compelled in any way, which should further push the other parties to deal with the negotiations in a logical and creative fashion.
This came after diplomats from France, Britain, and Germany said Western powers have not been able to enter into any real negotiations with Iran in the talks dedicated to reviving the nuclear deal.
The European diplomats had stressed in a statement that in light of the rapid development of Iran's nuclear program, the nuclear agreement will soon become pointless. They accused Iran of submitting proposals that were not in line with the 2015 nuclear deal.
On Monday, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein AmirAbdollahian stressed the need to revive the JCPOA in its original, balanced form, which was supported by the UN Security Council, in exchange for lifting the sanctions on Iran.
