Iraq calls for urgent Inter-Parliamentary Union session on Palestine
The Iraqi parliament demands that the United Nations take all responsibility to stop the humanitarian catastrophe in Palestine.
At a special meeting discussing the situation in Palestine, the Iraqi parliament urged on Sunday for an urgent session of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union to be convened in Baghdad, aiming to formulate a stance regarding the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip.
It was also decided to establish official entities to gather public and private contributions to support the Palestinian people.

"At its meeting, the Iraqi House of Representatives condemned the policy of killings, forced displacement of Palestinians, and demolitions of houses, reaffirming the right of Palestinians to defend their land and rights. We call on the Iraqi government to take all measures to support and assist the Palestinian people, especially in the Gaza Strip. [We] call on brotherly Arab parliaments to hold an emergency session of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union in Baghdad to take a position that would reflect the will of the Arab peoples," a statement read.
The Iraqi parliament demanded that the United Nations "immediately begin working to open humanitarian aid delivery points for the Palestinian people, and to take responsibility and take all necessary actions to stop the escalation, killings, and displacement of the Palestinian people."

Israeli occupation Security Minister Yoav Gallant ordered last week to cut off electricity, water, and food from Gaza, leaving 2 million Palestinians in the already-besieged Strip without basic human needs amid the ongoing aggression that has resulted in the killing of 2,600 Gazans so far with over 9,000 wounded.
The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA) affirmed Sunday that Israeli airstrikes on Gaza have revealed an "unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe."
The agency's Commissioner-General, Philippe Lazzarini, revealed that "there is not one drop of water, not one grain of wheat, not a liter of fuel that has been allowed into the Gaza Strip for the last eight days."
