The Iraqi Foreign Ministry on Friday firmly rejected a report alleging that US President Donald Trump gave Iran a two-week ultimatum to withdraw its so-called "affiliated militias" from Iraq.
Report claims Trump issued ultimatum to Iran
The recently published report claimed that Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein had delivered a message from Trump to the Iranian leadership. According to the report, the message set a deadline for the withdrawal of what it described as "Iranian militias" from Iraq.
Iraqi Foreign Ministry labels allegations baseless
In an official statement, the Foreign Ministry denied the report, stating that it is not based on any official source. The ministry described the publication as “an example of unprofessional media practices aimed at spreading false and misleading information.”
It further noted that the report appeared to be part of a systematic effort to distort the image of Iraq and influence public opinion negatively.
Ministry: Only official sources represent Iraqi foreign policy
The ministry emphasized that any reliable information regarding Iraq’s foreign policy must come directly from official statements or declarations issued by the Iraqi government or the Foreign Ministry itself. It reaffirmed its commitment to the principles of transparency and respect for international law, asserting that unofficial sources should not be treated as credible.
The Iraqi government continues to stress the importance of accuracy in reporting and the need for media outlets to uphold professional standards in their coverage of sensitive diplomatic issues.
