Iraq played an influential role in Lebanon-'Israel' ceasefire: spox
The spokesperson for the Iraqi government said that his country is committed in supporting rebuilding efforts in both Lebanon and Gaza.
Iraq played a central role in advancing the ceasefire between Lebanon and the Israeli occupation, the spokesperson for the Iraqi government Basim al-Awadi revealed on Wednesday.
"Iraq played a central and essential role in coordinating between [several] countries, and its [talks] were an essential key to reach the results of the ceasefire between Lebanon and the occupying entity," the spokesperson of the government headed by Mohammad Shia al-Sadani said.
He reaffirmed that his country will continue to aid both people in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon until stability is achieved.
"The ceasefire between Lebanon and the occupation is an important step that has furthered us away from an all-out war and it will serve as a catalyst for a ceasefire in Gaza," al-Aawadi added.
Furthermore, he emphasized the country's commitment to supporting reconstruction efforts in Lebanon and the Gaza Strip. He announced that the government would introduce an option for workers to contribute 1% of their salaries to assist in these initiatives.
As for Donald Trump's upcoming presidential term, al-Aawadi said that the government will deal with Trump's administration according to principles that benefit "Iraq's interests."
"The agreement to end the mission of the [US-led] international coalition in Iraq came after long discussions," al-Aawadi said, referring to a deal made with the current US administration, which would see the withdrawal of American and allied troops from the country.
