Iraq pledges to aid in Lebanon, Gaza reconstruction effort
The Iraqi government pledges to contribute to the reconstruction effort in Gaza and Lebanon following the massive destruction "Israel" afflicted on both.
Iraq has committed to contributing to the reconstruction of Gaza and Lebanon in the wake of the Israeli aggression. Government spokesperson Basem al-Awadi announced Iraq's pledge and highlighted the country's significant role in facilitating the ceasefires in Gaza and southern Lebanon.
"The Palestinian cause remains central in all of the Prime Minister's international discussions," al-Awadi emphasized, reiterating Iraq's dedication to supporting stability and rebuilding efforts.
Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani reaffirmed Iraq's commitment to promoting peace and preventing the spread of conflicts during a meeting with US Chargé d'Affaires Daniel Rubinstein. Al-Sudani stressed the importance of major powers and international organizations taking full responsibility for preventing genocidal wars.
He also underscored the urgency of providing humanitarian aid to Gaza residents and advancing reconstruction efforts in the wake of the ceasefire agreements.
The Iraqi government announced in September that it was following up on the high-risk security developments in Lebanon, as well as the Israeli attack that targeted telecommunication devices, leading to injuries and fatalities across the country.
"These events, alongside the recurrent threats and other violations perpetrated by the aggressive entity, as well as threatening to launch a wide-scale war on Lebanon, necessitate urgent international interference to prevent the slip of matters to the expansion of the war," the government said in a statement.
Iraq further highlighted that the war has been targeting the people of Gaza, as well as civilians in the occupied West Bank and South Lebanon, causing tragedies, while the Israeli occupation forces are allowed to implement their plots to expand and occupy more lands.
Strengthening US ties
Discussions during the meeting focused on enhancing Iraq-US relations and implementing mutual agreements for the benefit of both nations. The leaders also explored regional developments, including the situation in Syria and ongoing efforts to maintain ceasefires in Gaza, Palestine, and southern Lebanon.
The leader of the Islamic Revolution and the Islamic Republic of Iran Sayyed Ali Khamenei told al-Sudani and his accompanying delegation in Tehran that evidence indicates that the Americans are working to consolidate and expand their presence in Iraq, Sayyed Khamenei warned during his meeting with the Iraqi premier, stressing that "the US occupation must be confronted with utmost seriousness," according to Iran's Mehr News Agency.
"The presence of US occupation forces in Iraq is illegal and contradicts the interests of the Iraqi people and government," the Iranian leader underscored.
Iraq’s principled stance is to support the people of Gaza, Lebanon, and the Resistance in the region, he added.
On his part, al-Sudani stated that the strength of Iraq lies in its people, the Popular Mobilization Forces, national unity, cohesion, and the Supreme Religious Authority.
He reaffirmed that Iraq’s principled stance is to support the people of Gaza and Lebanon, as well as the Resistance in the region.
The Iraqi Prime Minister also highlighted that his country has consistently supported the will of the Syrian people, the preservation of Syria's independence and territorial integrity, and the formation of an inclusive government.
