Iraq: Drone attack on Balad Airbase thwarted
The Security Media Cell announced that an attempt to target Balad Airbase in Saladin Governorate was foiled.
On Saturday, Al Mayadeen correspondent reported sounds of clashes could be heard in the vicinity of Balad airbase, south of Saladdin Governorate, Iraq.
The Security media cell reported that three drones approached the southern perimeter of Balad Airbase at dawn. The unmanned drones could be seen with the naked eye by the troops tasked with protecting the external towers, and after confirming they were aggressive planes, they opened fire until they fled.

Al Mayadeen correspondent reported on January 13 that the US Embassy's compound in Baghdad was shelled with three rockets.
Our reporter said three strikes were heard around Baghdad. The Embassy's defense systems were activated following the incident.
On January 5, Al Mayadeen correspondent also reported that five Grad missiles fell on the US Ain Al-Assad Base in Al-Anbar.
Moreover, a logistical support convoy of the US-led International Coalition was targeted with an explosive device in Babel, south of Baghdad.
