Iraq: PKK Leader Assassinated in Iraq's Sulaymaniyah
The PKK announces that Turkish intelligence have assassinated the party's "martyrs' families board" member in Sulaymaniyah, east of Iraq.
The PKK announced on Friday the assassination of the party's "martyrs' families board" member, Yasin Bolot (Shoukry Sarhad), by armed gunmen in Sulaymaniyah, in Iraq's Kurdistan Province.
The PKK released a statement saying that at 9 a.m, Bolot was attacked by armed gunmen from Turkish intelligence in the Jarjira neighborhood while he was "receiving treatment" in the city of Sulaymaniyah.
The statement added that after the accident, security forces rushed to the scene and transported him to a forensic doctor in Sulaymaniyah.
After the assassination was announced, Deputy Prime Minister of Kurdistan Province, Qubad Talabani, released a statement strongly condemining the Sarhad's assassination, calling on security apparatuses to work "day and night" to arrest the perpetrators and bring them before justice.
The Turkish Defense Ministry had announced earlier today its neutralization of 6 PKK members in the north of Iraq, stressing that its fight against terrorism will continue.
