Iraq: Terrorist network in Kadhimiya targeted
Iraqi forces target an ISIS hideout in Anbar and arrest a terrorist who was planning a bombing operation.
On Monday, the Iraqi Ministry of Defense reported that six members of the ISIS terrorist organization got killed in an airstrike that targeted a hideout of the organization's elements in Anbar province, west of the country.
The Security Media Cell of the Ministry of Defense said in a statement that Iraqi F-16 fighters launched an airstrike on a hideout for ISIS elements in the desert of Anbar Province.
It added that "six members of ISIS were killed during the strikes, while a force from the Fifth Division searched the place for any other terrorist elements, equipment or weapons in the same place."
The Security Media Cell stated in its statement that "the agency's men were able to arrest a suspect who was planning and trying to detonate an explosive in one of the markets of the holy city of Kadhimiya last June."
The cell added, "All members of the terrorist network were arrested, and the hideout from which the terrorist carried out his operation was destroyed," adding that, "the intelligence agency can reach terrorist elements that are trying to pose a challenge on the security and stability in various regions of the country and has important goals that will be announced at a later time regarding those who sold their conscience to terrorist gangs."
The cell indicated that the Iraqi planes found the hideout after it was spotted by a reconnaissance plane belonging to the international coalition led by the United States of America.
In recent months, the frequency of attacks by suspected ISIS militants has increased, especially in the area between Kirkuk, Salah al-Din (north), and Diyala (east), known as the "Triangle of Death".
In parallel, the Iraqi forces have been launching military strikes and patrolling operations between different periods to pursue the remnants of the organization throughout the country, with the support of the international coalition.
