Iraqi Ashab Al-Kahf warns of US plot in the region to help 'Israel'
The Iraqi group calls on Baghdad to beware of an increased number of US military personnel in the country.
Iraqi Ashab Al-Kahf (The Cave Companions) reported today, Sunday, that American intelligence personnel is using Iraqi airspace extensively recently.
The United States "aims to transfer personnel and technical equipment from the Kuwaiti Jahra base to the Victory site located at Baghdad Airport," the group added.
Ashab Al-Kahf also warned that "we must also pay attention to what the Americans are planning in this particular period, which is to help the temporary Israeli entity and to increase the transfer of logistical support through Iraqi airspace."
The Iraqi group called on the Iraqi government to be aware of the increasing numbers of American forces in and around Iraq.
It is noteworthy that the number of US forces present in Iraq is estimated at 2,500 soldiers deployed in different locations of the country, especially in some military installations in Baghdad and northern regions.
An American news network said earlier that, two decades after its invasion, the United States maintains small forces in Iraq - claiming that they are for non-combat missions - to maintain a permanent presence in the country and ensure extended military and diplomatic ties with essential states in the region.
The network pointed out that despite the large difference between the number of US forces present now compared to what it was in the past, having a permanent presence in Iraq is of great importance for Washington to maintain its hegemony over the region.
In July 2021, Baghdad and Washington agreed to end the US combat mission in Iraq and that the US military mission in the country would shift its role to a strictly advisory and training capacity by end of 2021.
The commander of the Combined Joint Operations Command (CJOC), Major General John Brennan, said then, "As we complete our combat role, we will remain here to advise, assist, and enable the ISF (Iraqi security forces), at the invitation of Republic of Iraq."
However, Iraqi Resistance factions rejected Washington's statements, which claimed that the US presence in Iraq is still required to confront "ISIS".
