Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammad Shia al-Sudani held a phone call with Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, where he expressed on Wednesday confidence in the "final victory" of the Islamic Resistance in the region.

According to a statement released by the Iranian presidential office, al-Sudani offered his condolences on the martyrdom of senior Iranian Islamic Revolution Guard Crops' (IRGC) Quds Force martyr Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Zahedi and his comrades.

Zahedi and six other IRGC officers were killed in an Israeli airstrike on the Iranian Consulate in Damascus, Syria, on Monday. Al-Sudani extended his condolences to the leader of the Islamic Revolution, Sayyed Ali Khamenei, the Iranian government, and the people of Iran.

The Iraqi Prime Minister said that the Israeli aggression was a result of its terrible and continuous failures against the Resistance in the region.

"We are confident that the decisive and final victory will be for the Islamic Resistance in light of Iran's promising strategies," he added.

He also expressed gratitude for the unwavering and continuous support that Tehran extends to the Iraqi people in efforts to establish lasting peace and stability in the country. He also expressed his government's interest in strengthening bilateral relations and cooperation between Iraq and Iran.

On his part, Raisi hailed the shared Iranian-Iraqi stance against the Israeli regime and their support to the Palestinian nation, stressing that all Islamic countries should follow suit.

The President emphasized the Islamic Republic of Iran's deep commitment to fostering strong bilateral and regional ties with Iraq. He expressed optimism that, through the determination and mutual efforts of both nations' senior officials, the relationship between Tehran and Baghdad will thrive and advance to new heights.
