IRGC capture agent linked to foreign espionage service
Last week, IRGC intelligence also uncovered and disbanded a terrorist unit in Kermanshah, western Iran.
A person in Iran's northern province of Ardabil has been detained by the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps' (IRGC) intelligence forces on suspicions of being affiliated with a neighboring country's spy agency.
The IRGC claimed on Thursday that personnel from the provincial Hazrat Abbas camp seized the man, whose name was not immediately known, after a technical and surveillance operation, and handed him over to judicial authorities for legal prosecution.
Over the last few years, Iran's security services have disbanded numerous foreign-backed terrorist organizations near its borders.
Last week, IRGC intelligence troops uncovered and disbanded a terrorist unit in Kermanshah, Iran's western region.
Last month, the IRGC successfully neutralized and apprehended 11 terrorists linked to the Israeli entity in Iran’s southeastern Sistan and Baluchestan province, while five others turned themselves in.
During a security operation in the area, the IRGC detained 7 terrorists. Four terrorists were killed, as confirmed by the spokesperson for the exercise.
He stated, “In the continuation of this exercise, in the last 48 hours, 4 mercenary terrorists affiliated with the Zionist regime were killed, 7 people were arrested, and 5 others surrendered to the security forces.”
The spokesperson for the Iranian police, Brigadier General Montazeri Mahdi, announced on November 3 that "the leader of the terrorist cell responsible for the attack on Iranian security forces in the Taftan area of Sistan and Baluchistan province has been eliminated."
The said attack had resulted in the martyrdom and injury of a number of security personnel.
