IRGC Intercepts a US Warship in the Gulf
Iranian state TV reveals that Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps speedboats have intercepted a US Navy ship.
Iranian state television announced that Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps speedboats intercepted a US Navy ship in the Gulf waters.
Iranian media websites published a clip of the operations carried out by the Iranian Revolutionary Guards boats in the Gulf waters to monitor speedboats and US and foreign warships at different times, the date of which was not mentioned.
For his part, a spokesman for the US Navy's Fifth Fleet, based in Bahrain, said he was not aware of what he described as an "unsafe interaction" of this kind with Iran during the past two days.
It is noteworthy that the commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) Navy, Rear Admiral Ali Reza Tangsiri, stated that the Revolutionary Guards Corps watches and monitors every movement by the enemy and has all ships that enter the waters under its eyes.
US-Iranian interactions in the Gulf
On April 20, 2020, the US military said that 11 boats belonging to the Revolutionary Guards Corps carried out dangerous approaches and harassment operations against US Navy ships in the Gulf.
In a statement, the US military claimed that "the Iranian boats came within 10 yards of a US Coast Guard vessel."
A year ago, the Iranian Tasnim news agency showed a video of what it said was a Revolutionary Guards plane, monitoring several US naval forces in the Gulf region, including an aircraft carrier.
In March 2017, Reuters reported that several fast attack boats belonging to the Revolutionary Guards Corps approached a US Navy ship in the Strait of Hormuz, forcing it to change its course.
In July of the same year, the IRGC said that a US warship had approached one of the Iranian military boats in the Gulf region, adding that it fired two aerial bombs to cause a disturbance, but the IRGC boat crew turned a blind eye to the American behavior, so the ship turned away.
