Irish lawmaker calls for summoning Israeli ambassador
Irish lawmaker calls out Israeli Ambassador for media propaganda in Irish media.
During a parliamentary session on Wednesday, Catherine Connolly, an Irish lawmaker and the deputy chairperson of the lower house of Ireland's parliament called for summoning Israeli Ambassador to Ireland Dana Erlich to address accusations of spreading Israeli propaganda in Irish media.
Connolly told the meeting she "did not call for the withdrawal of the Israeli ambassador" before.
"I am finding it very difficult to stick with that decision because the ambassador has had free rein to propagate utter propaganda on our airwaves, with no balanced opposition, repeating that Israel is a democracy as if that gives it an entitlement to slaughter and carry out genocide. That is what we are listening to on the airwaves. I am now reviewing my decision in relation to that. At the very least, that woman and that ambassador should be called in here before the Dáil [Ireland's lower house] and made to account for the words she is using. That is what diplomacy is about at this point when we are looking at genocide," the lawmaker told the meeting.

Earlier on Wednesday, amid Israeli plans to invade and destroy the overcrowded city of Rafah, the Prime Ministers of Spain and Ireland urged the EU leadership to promptly reassess "Israel's" human rights obligations as stipulated in a trade deal signed with the bloc.
The plea was communicated in a three-page long letter addressed to commission president Ursula von der Leyen and the EU's foreign policy chief Josep Borrell.
Some argue that the letter is intended to encourage the bloc to voice a legal opinion on the situation in Gaza and pressure "Israel" to cease its genocidal campaign.
"We are deeply concerned at the deteriorating situation in Israel and in Gaza, especially the impact the ongoing conflict is having on innocent Palestinians, especially children and women," the letter, jointly written by Spain's Pedro Sanchez and Ireland's Leo Varadkar, read.
