Islamic-Christian summit in Lebanon condemns Israeli aggression
The Islamic-Christian spiritual summit in Lebanon affirms the unity of the Lebanese people in the face of the Israeli occupation’s aggression, which takes its toll on the entire country.
The Islamic-Christian spiritual summit, which was held on Wednesday, October 16, in Bkerki, the episcopal see of the Maronite Catholic Patriarchate of Antioch of the Maronite Church in Lebanon, affirmed that the Israeli aggression targets all of Lebanon and that the Lebanese, through their unity, are capable of resisting it.
In its closing statement, the summit urged the Lebanese people to engage in dialogue and maintain understanding, stressing that Lebanon is at risk of being lost due to Israeli threats and highlighting the importance of national unity and mutual support.
The statement also called on the Lebanese to fulfill their national responsibilities, particularly urging Parliament to elect a president of the Republic.
The summit expressed gratitude to those in Lebanon who are providing aid and shelter to the displaced people until they can return to their homes and villages.
Furthermore, the statement called on the UN Security Council to convene and take immediate action to stop the aggression on Lebanon, implement UN Resolution 1701, and enhance the capabilities of the Lebanese army.
The closing statement also thanked the Arab nations for their material and medical support, calling for an increase in assistance as Lebanon faces devastation.
It expressed appreciation for the international forces (UNIFIL), commending their commitment to remaining in their positions despite the Israeli occupation's aggression.
On another note, the summit reiterated its call for a Palestinian state, in accordance with the Beirut Summit of 2002.
The Israeli occupation continues its aggression on Lebanon, targeting Beirut and its Southern Suburb, as well as regions in South Lebanon, Bekaa, Baalbek-Hermel, Mount Lebanon, and North Lebanon.
Lebanon files UN complaint
The Lebanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants filed on Wednesday a new complaint with the United Nations Security Council, urging it to denounce the Israeli occupation's ongoing aggression on Lebanon and to ensure "Israel's" compliance with Resolution 1701.
The Ministry stated that this complaint was filed in response to Israeli attacks on Lebanese territory between October 3 and October 14.
Lebanon requested that the UNSC condemn "Israel's" repeated acts of hostility against both the country and its people, as well as the invasion of its land, and called for the immediate cessation of these attacks.
Additionally, Lebanon urged the Council to compel "Israel" to fully implement Resolution 1701 and withdraw from all occupied Lebanese land.
