Israeli airstrike on Syria provocative, irresponsible: Russia
The Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson strongly condemns the recent Israeli aggression on Syria and urges the Israeli occupation to stop armed provocations against Damascus.
Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson, Maria Zakharova, strongly condemned Friday the latest Israeli occupation aggression on Aleppo International Airport and the vicinity of Damascus.
Zakharova stressed that such irresponsible actions by the Israeli side are totally unacceptable, adding that the attacks target important civilian infrastructure in Syria, particularly airports.
The Russian spokesperson mentioned that on August 31, the Israeli military aircraft launched a series of missile attacks on Syrian territory, shelling the Aleppo International Airport and several facilities southeast of Damascus, including the capital's airport area.
Zakharova warned that destabilizing violent acts can lead to reprisals and a large-scale armed escalation, urging the Israeli occupation to end armed provocations against Syria.
Syria's Transport Ministry: Damascus, Aleppo airports resuming work
Earlier, Syria's Ministry of Transport announced that the Damascus International Airport is resuming its work while efforts are also underway to restore air navigation at Aleppo International Airport.
In a statement, the ministry revealed that the technical teams in the general aviation establishment, in coordination and cooperation with the competent national local companies, are working to restore and repair the damage caused by the Israeli aggression that targeted Aleppo International Airport.
The statement added that work is being done to resume the airport's operation within safety and security measures and to secure the arrival and departure of aircraft, passenger service, and the airport's full return to service without any modification to scheduled flights.
The ministry indicated that although some equipment stopped working as a result of damages sustained during the attack, it "does not affect the airport's work" and is continuing "air navigation normally."
On Wednesday, Syrian air defense forces intercepted three Israeli missiles fired at airfields in Aleppo and Damascus, Major General Oleg Egorov, deputy head of the Russian Center for the Reconciliation of Warring Parties in Syria, said.
The Syrian news agency SANA announced on Wednesday evening that several explosions were heard in the sky of the city of Aleppo, northern Syria.
The agency cited a military source as saying that the Syrian air defense forces repelled an Israeli air force missile attack in the skies over Damascus and its suburbs.
