Israeli drone targets UNIFIL patrol, injures 4: Sources
Sparing no one, an Israeli drone launches an attack on a UNIFIL patrol near the Lebanese-Palestinian border on Saturday.
An Israeli drone targeted a patrol of international observers working with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), in the border town of Rmesih, near the Lebanese-Palestinian border, Al Mayadeen's correspondent reported on Saturday morning.
An Israeli drone targeted a UNIFIL-designated military vehicle on Saturday morning, which led to several injuries among its crewmembers, one of whom was critically injured.
Our correspondent said that the attack on the UNIFIL-designated vehicle resulted in four injuries, three of whom are international observers who were transported to the town of at-Tiri to receive medical treatment while the fourth is a Lebanese translator who was also injured.
In detail, the three international observers are Norwegian, Chilean, and Australian nationals.
The mayor of Rmeish, Milad Alam, told Reuters that he had spoken with the translator and confirmed his condition was stable.
"From Rmeish, we heard a blast and then saw a UNIFIL car zipping by," Milad said.
A security source confirmed to Al Mayadeen the attack on the UNIFIL patrol, which occurred in the Qatmoun Valley, on the outskirts of Rmeish, in South Lebanon.
The attack on international observers came after they exited a vehicle that could easily be identified as a UN vehicle due to large markings. The observers were monitoring the line of Israeli withdrawal in 2000, also known as the Blue Line.
UNIFIL later confirmed in a statement that three international observers and one translator were injured as a result of the attack, saying that it is investigating the origin of the blast. Two security sources told Reuters that the observers were wounded in an Israeli strike but the Israeli occupation's military command denied striking the area.
Earlier, on November 25, 2023, a UNIFIL patrol was also targeted by Israeli occupation forces near the town of Aitaroun.
