The Marshall Islands-flagged dry bulk ship Laax was struck by five missiles fired from Yemen but remains seaworthy and the crew is unharmed, according to its security company, LSS-SAPU, speaking to Reuters on Wednesday.

The attack occurred on Tuesday while the vessel, allegedly carrying a cargo of grains, was near the Yemeni port city of Hodeidah. On Wednesday, the Yemeni Resistance claimed responsibility for targeting six ships, including the Laax.

"The vessel has sustained damage, she is not taking water, she is not tilting and there are no wounded onboard," a LSS-SAPU spokesperson said. "Everyone (is) onboard."

The spokesperson for LSS-SAPU, which previously evacuated the crew from the Rubymar ship after it sank from a Yemeni missile earlier this year, reported that the Laax had 23 crew members on board, consisting of Ukrainian, Filipino, and Egyptian nationals, along with a security team of three.

According to LSEG shipping data, the vessel last reported its position on May 28, with its destination being Bandar Imam Khomeini in Iran.

These include the LAAX (mentioned above), the MOREA and the Sealady (both in the Red Sea), US ships ALBA and Maersk HARTFORD (located in the Arabian Sea), and the MINERVA ANTONIA (located in the Mediterranean).

Spokesman for the Yemeni Armed Forces Yahya Saree said that these attacks were carried out in response to the ships violating the prohibition on accessing ports in the occupied Palestinian territories.

The official added that the Yemeni Armed Forces "will not hesitate to target any ships dealing with the Israeli entity within the declared operational areas, regardless of their destination as stated in previous statements."
