Israeli occupation forces have deployed new reinforcements to recently established occupied positions within the so-called buffer zone in southern Syria, raising warning signs to deter residents from approaching, a local source reported on Tuesday.
According to the source, the reinforcements were sent to four of nine fixed Israeli occupation positions: Mount Hermon in the Damascus countryside, Al-Hamidiya in the Quneitra countryside, and Al-Jazeera barracks in the Daraa countryside.
The source added that the reinforcements included infantry forces from the Golani Brigade and the Shaldag special unit, which occupied the summit of the Syrian side of Mount Hermon. Additionally, mine-clearing and snow-clearing vehicles, along with Israeli Merkava tanks, were deployed. However, no aircraft were overhead due to weather conditions.
Two days earlier, sources reported that Israeli occupation forces had advanced into the village of Ain al-Nourieh in the northeastern Quneitra countryside, further escalating tensions in the region.
A Syrian source speaking to Al Mayadeen said Israeli forces destroyed remnants of two former Syrian army mortar and anti-tank missile units near the strategic hill of Ain al-Nourieh.
Sources also noted that Israeli forces remained stationed for hours on a key route connecting Quneitra’s countryside to Damascus via Khan Arnaba - Harfa, sparking fear among residents. The increasing frequency of Israeli incursions and patrols in Quneitra and Mount Hermon has exacerbated local concerns.
