New attack on Palestinian Muslims: "Israel" to demolish Al-Quds mosque
The Israeli occupation authorities ordered the demolition of a mosque in Al-Quds that looks like the Dome of the Rock Mosque.
In one of "Israel's" newest attempts to vandalize lands of Palestinian livelihood and sustenance, the Israeli occupation authorities in Al-Quds ordered Monday the demolition of a mosque in the Beit Safafa neighborhood built before 1948, Israeli media reported.
According to Yedioth Ahronoth, the Al-Rahman Mosque, "drew criticism from several Israeli NGOs" due to its similarity to the Dome of the Rock Mosque, claiming that the newly-built golden dome is an "Islamist and nationalism" attempt to "takeover" Al-Quds.
The Israeli authorities claimed the mosque consisted of an "illegal" dome built without a received permit or approval from engineers and poses "safety risks," the newspaper said.
The occupation authorities do not usually grant Palestinians in occupied Al-Quds and other occupied territories construction permits, but its courts constantly order the demolition of buildings and houses under the pretext of "illegal" building.
In a clearly Islamophobic statement, Hagit Moshe, Chairperson of the "Jewish Home" attacked the mosque's architecture by saying that "It is impossible for colorful and huge domes to appear on the roofs of buildings in Jerusalem [occupied Al-Quds] like mushrooms after the rain."
Yedioth Ahronoth quoted Aviv Tatarsky of the "Ir Amim" NGO as saying that the Israeli authorities were “capitulating to [right-wing] extremists.”
A Palestinian official in the neighborhood, Mohammad Alian, stressed that Beit Safafa "is a calm and quiet neighborhood, this is a mosque and it should be respected."
