Israeli tank 'accidentally' shelled Egyptian outpost
Several Egyptian border guards have been injured as a result of the "accidental" Israeli tank shelling.
Israeli occupation forces (IOF) "accidentally fired and hit an Egyptian post" at the Egyptian-Palestinian border, the IOF stated.
Multiple Egyptian border guards sustained "minor injuries" from fragments of an Israeli tank shell, the Egyptian army spokesperson said in a statement on Sunday.
The IOF claimed that the incident, which took place on the Egyptian side of the border near "Kerem Shalom", was accidental.
The IOF expressed "sorrow regarding the incident."
"The incident is being investigated and the details are under review," the statement added.
On its part, the Egyptian army said "Israel" had "immediately expressed its regret over the unintentional incident and an investigation is underway."
Egyptian media claimed that the Israeli strike would not disrupt the passage of aid to Gaza, citing witnesses.
It is worth noting that "Israel" has bombed the Palestinian side of the Rafah crossing on multiple occasions since October 7, putting the only crossing into the Gaza Strip out of service.
Moreover, the occupation has tightened its blockade on the Gaza Strip, which means that essential supplies such as water and fuel have become increasingly scarce in the Strip.
No amount of goods has entered the Gaza Strip since October 7 except for a few trucks that lacked energy sources and barely provided any water or food for the Palestinian population of over 2 million people.
On Sunday, while AFP correspondents relayed that 17 aid trucks have crossed the Rafah border passage today for the second day in a row, from Egypt into Gaza, our correspondent revealed that the convoy was stalled as the Red Crescent had not yet delivered it to the Palestinian side, amid continued Israeli bombing.
