The Japanese-Moldovan summit results in further assistance to the Moldovan people in various fields.
Moldovan President Maia Sandu met with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida on Saturday during a business visit to Tokyo that extended from December 1 to 3.
In a social media post, Sandu said "This morning, I spoke with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida," adding "We confirmed our interest in developing joint initiatives that will help accelerate the provision of Moldova's energy security."
The Japanese MFA released a statement on the agreements made at the Japan-Moldova Summit, which noted that "Japan has decided to provide additional assistance which values approximately 27 million USD in the areas of health, food, energy, gender, etc. to Moldova."
Over 20% of Moldova's population has been displaced due to the Ukrainian conflict, and Kishida expressed gratitude for Chisinau's efforts to welcome them.
Kishida, in turn, showed appreciation for Chisinau’s efforts in accepting displaced people amid the war in Ukraine, with the number of refugees exceeding 20% of Moldova’s population.
Initially, the state of emergency in Moldova was launched on February 24 and was constantly extended afterward. With this new extension, the Commission for Emergency Situations decided to extend the emergency protocol for another 60 days, effective December 6.
