Jordan urges UN to take action against Ben-Gvir threats on Al-Aqsa
Jordan's foreign minister says the Israeli police minister's threats violate the status quo at Al-Aqsa.
Jordan's Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi called on the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to take immediate action against "Israel" concerning Israeli Police Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir's recent call to build a synagogue on the grounds of Al-Aqsa Mosque.
The Israeli minister claimed that building a synagogue on the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in the Old City would ensure equal rights for Muslims and Jews, which violates UN resolutions and the status quo of Al-Aqsa.
"We urge the Security Council and all members of the Int’l community to take immediate effective action to stop the illegal Israeli measures that violate the historical and legal status quo at occupied Jerusalem’s Holy Sites. As the occupying power, Israel is legally responsible for protecting the historical and legal Status quo," Safadi wrote on X on Tuesday.

The Jordanian minister urged the UNSC to adopt a binding resolution that prevents the occupation from committing further violations and escalations around the Al-Aqsa Mosque on the Temple Mount.
"The situation is already explosive. The hate-driven ideology enabling the designs to change the identity of the Mosque will provide the spark. The consequences will be dangerous," Safadi highlighted.
The top diplomat's condemnation follows the occupation government's commitment to financing the storming of the Al-Aqsa Mosque by illegal Israeli settlers after Ben-Gvir's statements.
"Temple Mount is ours, Damascus Gate is ours, let the whole world know that," the police minister said, adding, "Today, according to my policy, Jews entered the Old City freely. And on the Temple Mount Jews prayed freely. We say in the simplest way, it’s ours," Ben-Gvir said in a July statement.
Ben-Gvir has included changes to the status quo at Al-Aqsa Mosque in his ministry's formal action plans. His plan aims to alter the status quo at the Mosque by taking control of the site and allowing access to Israeli settlers.
Iran warns 'Israel' against encroaching on al-Aqsa sanctity
Jordan is not the only country to denounce "Israel's" recent annexation of Al-Aqsa.
Iran issued a stern warning to the Israeli occupation regarding any actions that could compromise the sanctity of the holy Al-Aqsa Mosque.
The Iranian government cautioned against what it described as a new wave of provocations from the Israeli side, which it claims are pushing the boundaries of the Islamic world's patience.
In a statement on Tuesday, Nasser Kanaani, spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, condemned recent comments made by Israeli officials about the future of the al-Aqsa Mosque.
"The cabinet of the criminal Zionist regime is trying to implement its malicious plans regarding al-Aqsa Mosque; to the extent that it shamelessly shouts the evil intention of building a synagogue in al-Aqsa Mosque," Kanaani wrote on X.
Kanaani emphasized Iran's strong opposition to any such plans, calling them a direct challenge to the Islamic Ummah. He warned that any encroachment on the holy site could lead to severe repercussions, adding that these actions would be viewed as crossing "the red lines of the Islamic Ummah."
