Khader Adnan Will Continue Hunger Strike
The wife of Sheikh Khader Adnan announces that her husband was beaten and insulted by police, confirming his refusal to go attend court.
Sheikh Khader Adnan's wife has announced that her husband phoned her today, Tuesday, through a human rights organization.
She divulged that her husband stated he was beaten and insulted by police, assuring her he would be continuing his hunger strike until his release.
She added that Khader will not attend court in refusal to legalize political detention, stressing that he lives in poor conditions and in an overcrowded space.
Al Mayadeen correspondent confirmed that Adnan is indeed still on a hunger strike, and is being detained by Palestinian Security Forces, indicating that he refuses to be represented by any lawyer in order to deny legitimacy to the court.
The correspondent also confirmed that his wife is on a hunger strike from abroad, in solidarity with her husband.
It is worth noting that the recently released prisoner, Khader Adnan (43), resorted to a hunger strike to protest his detention, which began on May 30 and lasted 25 days. His strike was called off after his lawyer secured an order not to extend his administrative detention and to release him.
Adnan was detained 12 times for a total of 8 years in occupation prisons, the majority of which were under administrative detention. He carried out severe hunger strikes, nearly losing his life in 2018, until he was released on November 13.
Khader Adnan's lawyer confirmed on Sunday that his client is still present at the Palestinian General Investigations, at a time when the Ramallah Magistrate's Court announced the release of seven detainees, including the released prisoner Maher al-Akhras, following their arrest on suspicion of participating in a protest for Nizar Banat, who was assassinated.
Banat was martyred on June 24th, after he was arrested by Palestinian Security Forces. According to Banat's family in an interview with Al Mayadeen, officers sprayed pepper gas in Nizar's eyes before "viciously beating him" and dragging him away. Two hours later, his family learned that Banat was martyred.
