Kremlin: Russia to develop partnerships with DPRK
Russia and the DPRK, according to the Kremlin, are planning to develop their partnership in all areas.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov, stated today that Russia intends to further develop relations of partnership with the DPRK in all areas, emphasizing that dialogue will continue at all levels.
"First of all, North Korea is our neighbor, our closest neighbor, our partner with whom we are developing and intend to further develop partnership in all areas ... Dialogue with North Korea will continue at all levels," Peskov announced. He indicated that there is a meeting between Vladimir Putin, Russia's President, and North Korea's foreign minister where fruitful and intense negotiations will take place.
It is noteworthy that from January 15-17, a delegation from the DPRK headed by Foreign Minister Choe Son Hui will pay a visit to Russia.
In return, Moscow hopes that Putin will be able to visit the DPRK in the foreseeable future, according to Peskov, adding that the dates will be agreed on through diplomatic channels.
They have a 'common enemy'
DPRK Ambassador to Moscow Sin Hong Chol stated back in September 2023 that his country would increase military coordination with Russia in its fight against "a common enemy".
"We will also strengthen military comradeship and solidarity with Russia in the fight against a common enemy," the ambassador said at an event commemorating the 75th anniversary of the founding of the DPRK.
The diplomat emphasized the DPRK's confidence in the strength of its relations with Russia with which each shares "a deep history and tradition of friendship and cooperation."
Great plans ahead
The Russian Ministry of Natural Resources announced on November 17, 2023 that Russia and the DPRK) have decided to jointly explore gold, iron, and rare metal deposits through geological means as well as explore hydrocarbon deposits offshore.
The announcement came following the 10th meeting of the intergovernmental commission between North Korea and Russia on trade, economic, scientific, and technological cooperation, held in Pyongyang on Wednesday.
The ministry explained that mineral resources management is a "potential area for development," explaining that the two countries had agreed on "joint geological exploration of gold, rare metals, and iron deposits as well as on the offshore exploration of hydrocarbons."
