Kremlin: Putin, Biden plan phone conversation
At the initiative of the US side, Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Joe Biden plan to hold a phone conversation on Saturday, February 12.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told reporters, on Friday, that Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Joe Biden plan to have a phone conversation on Saturday, February 12.
"Indeed, the US side has asked for a conversation with President Putin, and tomorrow evening, Moscow time, the two presidents are scheduled to have a conversation," the Kremlin Spokesperson said.
Peskov affirmed that "the request was preceded by a written appeal from the US side."
Earlier, US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan expected that US President Joe Biden would call his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin after Sullivan claimed that a Russian invasion of Ukraine "could begin at any time" including during the Beijing Winter Olympics.
"I would expect that President Biden will engage by telephone with President Putin, but I don't have anything to announce for you on that right now," Sullivan concluded.
This comes after the Russian Foreign Ministry described the White House's statements on an 'imminent invasion' of Ukraine as "hysterical". The Russian Foreign Ministry also considered that Russia is facing a misinformation war with the aim of distorting its demands related to security guarantees.
Russia has repeatedly denied any intention to invade Ukraine while pointing to NATO's military activity as a threat to Russian national security.
Just a couple of days after 2,000 US troops land in Europe to "assist" Kiev against Russia, London has also pitched in, sending more than 100 of its special forces advisors to the Ukrainian capital to train and aid the Ukrainian military.
