Lapid meets with UAE FM in Italy, discusses cooperation
Lapid says he discussed with bin Zayed strategic cooperation and relations with Gulf countries.
Israeli opposition figure and former Prime Minister Yair Lapid confirmed that on Tuesday he had met with UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan in Italy, where they discussed strategic cooperation between the UAE and the Israeli occupation.
"We discussed strategic cooperation, relations with the Gulf countries and the promotion of projects for further cooperation and deepening of common interests and relations," Lapid wrote on X platform.
This comes amid weekly protests staged by the Israeli opposition against the government of Israeli occupation Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, against its plans to approve judicial overhaul legislation that would undermine the power of the Israeli Supreme Court.
In May, Israeli occupation Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu received an invitation from UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to attend the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28) to be held in Dubai in November 2023.
It is noteworthy that under US auspices, the Israeli occupation, the UAE and Bahrain signed in September 2020 the so-called "Abraham Accords" to normalize ties.
In January 2021, Sudan also joined the deal but did not sign the documents with "Israel", due to disagreements between the Sudanese military and civilian leadership over the issue.
