Lavrov: US approach toward Russia creates toxic atmosphere
Russian Foreign Minister says admitting Ukraine to NATO and the possibility of deploying assault missile systems near Russia's borders pause threats to Moscow.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said Friday the US unfriendly approach toward Russia creates a toxic atmosphere and prevents the creation of peaceful contact between the two countries.
In an interview for Oslobođenje newspaper, Lavrov pointed out that Moscow's interactions with Washington have led to unfavorable scenarios, revealing that there have been many tensions between the two.
The Russian FM accused the US of being "overtly antagonistic" as it continues to impose sanctions, hostile actions, and "make baseless charges against Russia."
Lavrov was quoted as saying that admitting Kiev into NATO and the possibility of deploying assault missile systems near Russia's borders pause threats to Moscow's security and would trigger major military risks for all parties and even lead to a large-scale military conflict in Europe.
Putin: Russia will not be part of the conflict in the Donbas region
Regarding the Russian President's video summit with his US counterpart Joe Biden, Lavrov revealed that the two touched on the Ukrainian crisis and the lack of progress in implementing the Minsk Agreements on Donbas.
During his annual press conference, Putin stressed, on Thursday, that Russia is ready to work with Ukrainian sides who are looking to build good-neighborly relations with Moscow.
On his part, the Russian President said Russia will not be part of the conflict in the Donbas region.
"The future of Donbas should be determined by the people who live in Donbas. That's all. It cannot be done differently," emphasized Putin, adding that the further expansion of NATO to the East is not acceptable for Russia.
It is worth noting that the Minsk Agreement is an agreement to stop the war in the Donbas region, signed by Ukraine, Russia, the Donetsk People's Republic, the Luhansk People's Republic, and the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe on September 5, 2014.
