Le Pen catching up with Macron in election polls
French President Emmanuel Macron has lashed out at his rival who rose to 47.5% compared to his 52.5%. With a margin of error of up to 3.1 points, Le Pen could theoretically emerge as the winner in the second round.
As far-right French candidate Marine Le Pen closes in on current president Emmanuel Macron, the latter has lashed out at her, warning supporters not to take anything for granted as the French election shows fierce competition.
On Saturday, Macron will be addressing a rally for the first time in his campaign to get re-elected for the presidency, as the elections will take place soon on April 10. Last month, polls suggested that Macron could be winning the second round of the presidential elections.

Le Pen is catching up with Macron in the elections. In the last Elabe poll, which was published Wednesday, Le Pen won 47.5%, while Macron projected 52.5%, which is a smaller margin than last week's poll.
With a margin of error of up to 3.1 points, those figures suggest Le Pen could theoretically emerge as the winner in the second round.
Analysts say that Le Pen has leveraged as a result of focusing on basic issues, such as the decreasing spending power of the French population, in addition to appearing moderate in comparison with Eric Zemmour, who is notorious for his anti-immigrant, racist, anti-feminist views.
Macron recently insisted that there was no difference between Le Pen and Zemmour. They were both "extreme right," he said, on a visit to Fouras, France.
Le Pen, however, can land herself in hot water over her admiration for Russian President Vladimir Putin, whom she visited in 2017.
