Lebanese FM: We Aim to Address Repercussions of the Crisis with KSA
Lebanese Foreign Minister Abdallah Bou Habib assures that Lebanon is keen on keeping communication and rapprochement channels open with Saudi Arabia.
Foreign Minister Abdallah Bou Habib stated Saturday that a crisis cell formed in response to the diplomatic row with Saudi Arabia and the Gulf countries will conduct permanent sessions.
Bou Habib added that "we want to address the repercussions of the crisis with the Gulf countries," stressing "the implementation of our commitments towards the Arab world, especially Saudi Arabia."
The Foreign Minister stressed that "we asked for Washington's help to resolve the crisis, and therefore the US Chargé d'Affaires is attending the crisis cell meeting."
Besides, a crisis cell meeting with five Lebanese ministries and Presidency Secretary-General Antoine Choucair was held Saturday to address the diplomatic crisis with KSA upon the request of Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Miqati.
In a statement, the crisis cell confirmed that its main mission is to mend the rift to overcome the latest issue.
“We believe that what is happening is a problem and not a crisis,” the statement added.
This meeting coincides with Kuwait’s decision to summon its Ambassador to Lebanon, demanding the Chargé d'Affaires of the Lebanese Embassy in Kuwait to leave the country within 48 hours.
This decision came following Saudi Arabia's decision on Friday to summon its Ambassador to Lebanon for consultations. It additionally decided to suspend all Lebanese imports.
