Lebanon agreement biggest Lapid blunder: Israeli media
Israeli media says the maritime demarcation agreement with Lebanon proved the weakness of Lapid's government in protecting "Israel's" invulnerability.
The maritime demarcation agreement between Lebanon and "Israel" is the biggest ever strategic mistake committed by Israeli occupation Prime Minster Yair Lapid, Israeli media said on Thursday.
"Since he became prime minister, Lapid has taken three strategic decisions, all of which point to a lack of political wisdom," Israeli newspaper Maariv said.
"They may also cause a fierce war that Lapid cannot lead because he is not a military man," the Israeli outlet underlined.
"The deal reached with Lebanon is the biggest mistake ever, which proves the weakness of Lapid's government and highlights its inability to safeguard Israel's invulnerability," Maariv added.
Israeli Major General (Reserve) Yitzhak Brick told Israeli media on Wednesday that "Tel Aviv" lost its military strength over the past two decades, exposing the occupation to various threats.
"For you to conduct negotiations about political and economic interests, you must have a trump card, and if you don't, you are giving up or gambling everything," Brick added.
The Israeli occupation cabinet approved on Wednesday the US-brokered maritime border agreement with Lebanon, with all its members voting in favor, except Interior Minister Ayelet Shaked, who abstained, Israeli media reported.
The media said Israeli occupation Prime Minister Yair Lapid did not wish to seek the Knesset's approval, since if put to vote in the parliament, it is not clear whether the maritime agreement will pass.
But the legal advisor to the Israeli occupation government, Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara, recommended Tuesday that the agreement be brought to the Knesset for formal parliamentary approval, although "there is no obligation by law to bring an agreement of this sort for approval by the Knesset."
This comes after Lapid announced on Tuesday that "Israel" has reached a historic agreement on maritime demarcation agreement mediated by the US.
On its part, the Lebanese Presidency also confirmed that "the final version of the southern maritime borders agreement is satisfactory and meets the Lebanese demands."
The dangerous aspect of the agreement, Israeli occupation opposition leader Benjamin Netanyahu said yesterday, is that "Lapid and Gantz set a very dangerous precedent: terrorism is threatening Israel into retreat. This a devastating hit to our deterrence power."
"The maritime agreement with Lebanon is an embarrassing act of surrender by Lapid and Gantz to (Hezbollah Secretary-General) Nasrallah. Lebanon got 100%, and "Israel" got nothing," Netanyahu said.
