Lebanon's internal issues can only be resolved once sovereignty is restored, Hezbollah Secretary-General Sheikh Naim Qassem asserted during his Monday speech, in which he eulogized Sayyed Abbas Ali Mousawi, one week after his passing.
During his speech, Sheikh Naim reiterated the United States' excessive interference in Lebanese affairs, confirming that it is the entity responsible for preventing arms that protect the Lebanese homeland, its security, and sovereignty.
In the context of disarming the Lebanese Resistance movement, Sheikh Qassem said the Lebanese government's decision is non-charter-based, and if it continues down this path, it is not faithful to Lebanon’s sovereignty.
He recalled the battle to liberate the eastern outskirts of Lebanon against the takfiris and ISIS, clarifying that it was based on a stern and brave decision by former President Michel Aoun despite mounting US pressure.
Resistance stronger than ever, no room for disarmament
Hezbollah's leader also reaffirmed that the Resistance remains a vital pillar of national defense and dignity in Lebanon, emphasizing that its role has grown more crucial than ever, especially in light of increasing aggression and foreign interference.
He grimly warned that "Israel" may occupy, kill, and destroy, but Hezbollah will confront it so that it does not settle, affirming that this is within its ability.
Sheikh Qassem stated that more than half of Lebanon’s population stands behind the Resistance, united in the defense of the country’s sovereignty, people, and territorial integrity. He stressed that any attempt to dismantle the Resistance’s arms would be equivalent to stripping it of its very soul.
He firmly rejected any notion of a phased surrender of weapons, saying such discussions are premature until the other side fulfills its obligations. He made clear that the Resistance's arms are not only a symbol of dignity but a shield against Israeli aggression.
Resistance and army: Partners in defense
Hezbollah’s position, he further stated, operates in partnership with the Lebanese Armed Forces, which he described as the primary force responsible for defending the country. The Resistance, he said, acts as a complementary support system to the army, especially in times of confrontation.
He characterized resistance as an honorable reaction to aggression, rooted in patriotism, faith, and steadfastness. According to Sheikh Qassem, the Resistance stands in stark contrast to surrender, humiliation, and foreign subservience.
Calls for national mobilization
In response to external pressure and internal challenges, Sheikh Qassem called on Lebanese citizens, political leaders, and media platforms to take a more active role in reclaiming national sovereignty.
He urged people to adopt the slogan, "We demand that Lebanon’s government restore national sovereignty," as a unifying message that holds the state accountable.
He encouraged the public to flood social media and traditional media outlets with constructive proposals aimed at empowering the government and reinforcing national independence. He also urged officials to convene urgent discussions and formulate plans focused on resisting foreign influence and safeguarding Lebanon’s autonomy.
