Lebanon rejects Israeli intervention condition for ceasefire: MP Berro
Loyalty to the Resistance bloc MP Raed Berro asserts Lebanon’s firm stance, rejecting "Israel’s" military intervention and expressing reliance on the battlefield to uphold national interests.
"The Resistance in Lebanon is in excellent shape," Loyalty to the Resistance bloc MP Raed Berro told Al Mayadeen on Thursday evening.
Berro explained that "Israel" is attempting to create the illusion of victory in the second phase of its attempted ground invasion and is now trying to advance into Bint Jbeil. He underscored that defending the nation and its people is a fateful matter, with resistance being the sole path forward.
Berro predicted that "with the increase in Resistance operations, the 36th Battalion of the Golani Brigade [of the IOF] will be taken out of service," which "will result in significant repercussions."
While mentioning that the Loyalty to the Resistance bloc has decided to leave negotiations to the Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, as the bloc announced, he confirmed that "Lebanon has not yet received any proposal for a ceasefire."
He further stressed, "Our reliance is not on external initiatives but on the battlefield," adding that “the battlefield has started to put pressure on Israel internally.”
Regarding the conditions "Israel" sought to impose through the negotiations, Berro asserted that "Israel’s" demand for military intervention in Lebanon is unacceptable, labeling it as yet another form of occupation.
He emphasized that Lebanon has firmly rejected this condition, asserting that "Israel" is in no position to impose concessions or surrender. He added that successes on the battlefield enable Lebanon to strengthen its position in any talks.
He also slammed Yisrael Beytenu party leader Avigdor Lieberman’s statement about the necessity of occupying 15 kilometers of southern Lebanon as “fantasy".
Berro revealed that "the fighters have received orders from the Resistance leadership to remain on the defensive without shifting to offense," asserting that they are "fully committed to this."
'Israel' seeks capacity to hit, enter Lebanon post-ceasefire: France
The condition of imposing military intervention at any time is becoming increasingly prominent in Israeli discourse.
French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot tackled this issue and highlighted that Israeli officials are adamant about retaining the ability to strike Lebanon at any time as part of the conditions for a potential ceasefire with Hezbollah, Reuters reported.
"Today we hear in Israel voices calling for it to keep a capacity to strike at any moment or even enter Lebanon, as is the case with its neighbor Syria," indicated Barrot, who held last weeks talks with Israeli Minister of Strategic Affairs Ron Dermer and new Security Minister Israel Katz.
The top French diplomat argued that such a position "is not compatible with the sovereignty of a strong country," pointing to broader international efforts to strengthen governance in Lebanon.
Diplomats commented that any proposal including such an Israeli demand would likely be unacceptable to Lebanon.
