The Iranian Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) has assigned its new chief of intelligence, after its former chief was assassinated in the Israeli aggression that targeted Iran last week, RIA Novosti reported on Thursday.
Majid Khademi has been named as the new leader of the IRGC's intelligence department, according to a report by the Fars news agency on Thursday.
Khademi is set to take over from Mohammad Kazemi, the previous commander of the IRGC's Intelligence Organization, who was assassinated in Israeli airstrikes.
On June 15, the IRGC announced the martyrdom of three intelligence commanders, including Kazemi, who served as head of the IRGC Intelligence Organization, along with his deputy General Hassan Mohaqeq and General Mohsen Bagheri, in Israeli attacks on residential areas in Tehran.
General Kazemi was appointed as the head of the IRGC Intelligence Organization on June 23, 2022, by Major General Hossein Salami.
Iran reshapes its top command amid assassinations
Following the assassination of several senior Iranian military leaders in "Israel's" June 13 aggression, Iranian Leader Sayyed Ali Khamenei made new appointments to fill key command positions across Iran's Armed Forces and the IRGC.
Major General Abdolrahim Mousavi, the former Commander of Iran's Army, has been named as the new Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, replacing the late Major General Mohammad Hossein Bagheri, who was martyred during the June 13 aggression.
The IRGC has undergone a significant leadership change with Brigadier General Mohammad Pakpour, previously serving as Commander of the IRGC Ground Forces, being named as the new Commander-in-Chief of the IRGC after Major General Hossein Salami was martyred in the Israeli strike.
In another key appointment, Sayyed Khamenei elevated Brigadier General Ali Shadmani to Major General while assigning him leadership of Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, filling the position left vacant by the martyrdom of Major General Gholam Ali Rashid and his son during the same Israeli attack.
