Two people were killed and three others were seriously injured in a car ramming and stabbing incident outside a synagogue in Manchester, northwest England, on Thursday, according to police.
Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said in a statement that armed officers shot a man believed to be responsible for the attack.
“A man believed to be the offender was shot by GMP Firearms Officers and is also believed to be deceased,” the force announced on X. However, police noted that his death has not yet been formally confirmed due to “suspicious items on his person.”
Specialist bomb disposal units were deployed to the scene to assess the threat. Authorities have cordoned off the area, urging the public to avoid the vicinity while emergency services respond.
Police confirmed that three individuals wounded in the attack are in “serious condition” and are receiving treatment. Investigations are ongoing, with security forces maintaining a heavy presence in the area.
