Thousands rallied across France on Saturday in solidarity with Palestinians, demanding an end to the conflict in Gaza as trade unions, left-wing parties, and activist groups mobilized for a global protest weekend against the Israeli war on Gaza.
The protest organizers had issued their call for demonstrations before "Israel" escalated tensions on Friday with a large-scale wave of strikes on Iran, sparking concerns among experts that the conflict could expand and destabilize the wider region.
In Paris, where the largest protest unfolded, police estimated the crowd at 9,000 demonstrators while organizers from the CGT trade union and far-left France Unbowed (LFI) claimed a significantly higher turnout of 150,000 participants. Large crowds also gathered in Marseille, Toulouse, and Rennes to join the demonstrations.
European Parliament member Rima Hassan urged supporters to disrupt, defy, and take every possible measure to uphold international law and stop the ongoing genocide, saying, "deviate, disobey and take all necessary actions to enforce international law, to put an end to genocide."
Demonstrators on Saturday condemned France's position in the conflict, accusing the government of being overly accommodating or even "complicit" with "Israel's" actions.
"We don't want what is happening in Gaza to be silenced. Every day we hear that 30, 60 people have died. It has become routine, we don't see it anymore and I'm afraid that with what's happening with Iran, it will become even more invisible," one protester told AFP.
According to the Gaza Health Ministry, 90 martyrs arrived to hospitals across the Strip, in addition to 605 injuries in the past 48 hours, with the total death toll of the Israeli war on Gaza reaching 55,297 martyrs and over 128,426 wounded since October 7, 2023.
The ministry report further highlighted that the toll since March 18, when "Israel" resumed its war on Gaza, has reached 5,014 martyrs and 16,385 wounded.
The latest hospital reports indicate that over the past 48 hours, 29 people were killed and more than 380 injured in aid distribution incidents, bringing the total death toll from humanitarian aid-related incidents in designated distribution areas to 274 fatalities, with over 2,532 wounded.
