Mbappe wins fourth consecutive french Player of the Season award
French forward Kylian Mbappe secures his fourth Player of the Season award after scoring 28 goals in his team's Ligue 1 campaign.
Kylian Mbappe clinched the Ligue 1 Player of the Season award for the fourth consecutive time on Sunday, after playing an important role in Paris Saint-Germain's record-breaking 11th Ligue 1 victory.
The French superstar has netted an impressive 28 goals in the league this season, positioning himself to secure his fifth consecutive top-scorer title in Ligue 1.
Expressing his delight upon receiving the award, Mbappe stated, "It's a pleasure. I always aspired to win and etch my name in the league's history. But despite my ambition, I didn't anticipate winning it so quickly."
Mbappe, who has scored 40 goals in all competitions for the 2022-2023 season, rejected a move to Real Madrid last season and instead signed a new three-year contract to extend his stay with PSG.
However, unless Mbappe exercises an option to extend his contract until 2025, his deal with PSG is set to expire next year. When questioned about his future during the awards ceremony, Mbappe confidently replied, "I will be here again next season."
In any case, if the French star does not trigger the extension clause, other football clubs will have the ability to negotiate a pre-contract with the player in next season's winter transfer window.
By securing the award for the fourth time, Mbappe surpasses Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who previously won the accolade three times during his tenure at the Parisian club. The Player of the Season award has been presented since 1994.
Meanwhile, Franck Haise of Lens was named Coach of the Season for leading the club to a remarkable second-place finish, securing their return to Champions League football after a two-decade absence.
Additionally, Lens goalkeeper Brice Samba received recognition, and Paris Saint-Germain's left-back Nuno Mendes was honored as the Best Young Player.
Mbappe was joined by three of his PSG teammates, Lionel Messi and Achraf Hakimi, in the Ligue 1 Team of the Season, highlighting the club's continued dominance in French football.
