Medvedev warns against Western moves on Taiwan amid regional tensions
Dmitry Medvedev recently held a meeting with President Xi Jinping in Beijing to discuss matters of strategic stability and security.
Deputy chair of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev on Friday warned against Western-backed efforts to redefine Taiwan's status, asserting in an article published today that Taiwan is an "organic and integral" part of China.
"Taiwan is an organic and integral part of the pan-Chinese space, an administrative entity of the Chinese People's Republic. Attempts that are being inspired from across the ocean to invent Taiwanese statehood, a Taiwanese nation or language are artificial and therefore unsustainable," Medvedev wrote in an article "On National Identity and Political Choice: The Experience of Russia and China."
This comes in light of escalating tensions in the South China Sea, particularly as the US continues to bolster its military presence and provoke Beijing by deepening its defense ties with regional allies, including South Korea, Japan, and Taiwan.

Last week, Taiwanese leader Lai Ching-te praised the "rock-solid" relationship between Taiwan and the US, which continues to supply arms to the island.
Lai also held a phone call with former US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, whose 2022 visit to Taiwan triggered the region's worst escalation of tensions in decades.
On Thursday, Medvedev held a meeting with President Xi Jinping in Beijing to discuss matters of strategic stability and security.
Russia may consider missile deployment in Asia-Pacific over US actions
On November 25, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov informed TASS that Russia may consider deploying shorter- and intermediate-range missiles in the Asia-Pacific region in response to US actions.
Speaking to journalists, Ryabkov said that this option remains on the table as a potential military-technical response to US missile deployments in any region of the world.
"Our further steps, including in what concerns our military-technical response, will depend on the deployment of corresponding US systems in any region of the world," the top Russian official stated.
He stressed that the responsibility for the current situation and any potential escalation lies solely with Washington and its European allies, whom he accused of supporting Kiev's "ephemeral ambitions and most criminal designs."
